Metromode – Hungry For Success
Food + Nightlife
36-year-old Paul Jenkins Jr., owner of the chic Black Pearl in Ann Arbor and Royal Oak’s charmingly dramatic What Crêpe?, also has a background in nightlife and promotions. Having produced special events for the likes of Puff Daddy, MTV and the NBA, Jenkins knows what it takes to create an aesthetically pleasing scene that excites and entices. And with his experiences in his multi-generation family construction business, building such huge commercial properties as the Motor City Casino, he has also learned the importance of effective design.
what crêpe? What’s in the Name?
It’s a provocative name, isn’t it? Not many storefronts make use of the interrogative mood on their awnings—especially in phrasing that’s grammatically ambiguous. Since I first discovered What Crêpe? (because we all discover such lovely spaces—to say we merely find them is to downplay that sense of wonder and accomplishment at having become familiar with the novel or little-known), I’ve given myself over to the intrigue of its name. I’ve allowed myself to wonder what it could possibly mean, and I believe that wondering has provided me the answer.
